Independently verified results for Tahoe Truckee Unified School District Administrative Building (Truckee, CA) yielded a 76% reduction in energy usage. With the 33% rebate available from the Truckee Donner Public Utility District, the payback was 2.31 years. They have elected to retrofit all 13 facilities in the district.

E-minus fitted the Wilo Stratos D 3×3-40 to replace two B&G 7.5 HP 1510 pumps. The ECM motor/pump design considerably reduces space requirements, material and labor cost for owners, contractors, plumbers and electricians. The Stratos D will stage/rotate every 24 hours and optimize the impeller speed according to load. There is no need for external controls; the pump, motor, and computer are self contained and ready to run right out of the box.

This retrofit of an Army barracks building involved pump changeouts for the cooling systems in one building, while an identical building remained unchanged. Results were an 88% savings in energy consumption, more efficient chiller operation, and a 0.66 ton reduction in CO2 emissions.

The Wilo Stratos pump was chosen as an example of a pump utilizing ECM (electronically commutated motor) technology, which is able to realize up to 80% energy savings compared to conventional constant speed pumps. Wilo is the industry innovator and leading supplier of this technology, having premiered the technology at the ISH Exhibition in Frankfurt in 2001.

e-minus partners with Wilo, the international pump company founded in 1872. Our electronically commutated motors (ECM) technology — mandatory throughout Europe — typically saves 50–80% of pumping costs. Wilo-USA’s certified US-built manufacturing plant in Georgia combines the best of American-made products with green energy solutions.

An e-minus retrofit of existing pumping systems with Wilo pumps affords rapid payback of investment, plus the ability to redirect thousands of dollars of energy cost savings each year to other important agenda. Our clean energy engineering solutions specifying Wilo pumps meet utility provider requirements for rebate programs, including Prop. 39.
